Before you know it, your babies will be ready to head out the door for their first day of school. Stock up in advance on tissues! In the meantime, you can follow this good advice from one of our members, who is herself a teacher, and spend some time checking out the Redwood City School District’s or Belmont-Redwood Shores School District’s web sites.

• Visit our local schools to see education in progress and meet your child’s potential new teacher.
• Ask to speak to parents of students to hear a first-hand report.
• Offer to volunteer as a reader or other helper and get a very personal look at our local schools.
• Attend a PTA meeting; call the school of interest to find out dates. It is often here that you find out about the goals of the schools, the priorities they are setting and the challenges they face.
