Kindergarten Preparedness Night – Nov. 15

Building blocks for school readiness include:

  • Self-help skills: toileting, dressing, proper rest and nutrition (necessary in a class of 20+ children vs. 2-3 at home)
  • Social & Emotional Development: learn to work w/ other children, know how to wait to get needs met, can share, take turns, has good problem solving skills, and can appropriately express feelings (no hitting/biting, etc)
  • Language: parents need to talk to children a lot to boost vocabulary (any language is beneficial – native/English, etc), parents should read to children, listen to and answer children’s questions, and parents need to engage the children in their language
  • Academics: make everything you do in this realm an adventure in learning as it is the teacher’s job to teach the academics (letters, numbers, etc)

It is important to work on all 4 areas of readiness in parallel and in balance.
